About Safer Internet Day

Safer Internet Day is an annual event that promotes safer and more responsible use of online technology, especially among children and young people. It is typically observed on the second Tuesday of February each year. The main objective of Safer Internet Day is to raise awareness about online safety issues and encourage individuals to create a better and safer internet for everyone

The use of the online space has expanded drastically expanded especially after the Covid-19 Pandemic. Smartclicks Tech-wellness Awareness Networks celebrates SID 2024 with a theme Cyber Citizenship: Navigating the Digital Landscape Responsibly.Cyber Citizenship, plays a pivotal role in shaping a positive and secure online environment. Its involves three core key pillars: digital literacy, ethical behaviour, and online safety.

Digital literacy is the foundation of Cyber Citizenship. This includes understanding how to use digital tools effectively, critically evaluating information, and making informed decisions in the online realm.

Ethical behaviour is a fundamental principle that Cyber Citizens adhere to. Treating others with respect, refraining from engaging in cyber bullying and respecting privacy rights are essential components. Knowing the consequences of online actions is crucial.

Online safety is proactive measures, such as using secure passwords, exercising caution when sharing personal information, and staying informed about cyber security threats, contribute to creating a secure online environment for individuals and the community at large.

These three pillars collectively form the basis of responsible Cyber Citizenship.

Smartclicksng and Safer Internet Day

in a bid to mark the day, Smartclicksng chose to organise a free training/awareness in environment predominated by students as Bayaro University Kano was chosen for the training.

Mrs Amina Idris a Tech Advocate and a Public Speaker served as the special guest for the event. During her session, she took a tour around the need to Navigate the Digital Space Responsibly as well as the what, the how and the why.

in a bid to practically illustrate how hackers can hack into social media account by the use of passwords, she offered a software that tests the strength of a password and tells how long it will take hackers to break in. several trials resulted in 1 week, 3 months, 10 years, 100 years and so on.

The attendees showed so much appreciation as to the quality of information passed and the awareness they had received from the event.

Safer Internet Day continues to be celebrated nationwide on the  second Tuesday of February each year, SEE You at Next Years Celebration.
